Keeping Daviess County a Great Place to Live
What's Gone Wrong:
- Crime is increasing – people are concerned about the safety of their neighborhoods.
- Seniors want a safe place to gather.
- Our youth need safe and engaging activities.
- Daviess County becoming a magnet for drug addiction, homelessness, sex offenders.
- Well intentioned programs are changing the character of our neighborhoods.
- Rents are increasing because well-funded groups are buying up housing.
- Industrial solar farm proposals threaten the rural character of our land and risk encroaching on rural homes.
- Unsightly and not maintained.
- Can worsen stormwater runoff and contribute to flooding on nearby properties.
- Pose a real environmental hazard if damaged.
- Can put first responders, particularly firefighters in danger.
- Could be a disastrous expense to the county to decomisison.
- Animal welfare is suffering because of the limited hours of our animal shelter:
- Difficult to adopt because of limited hours.
- Lack of low-cost spay/neuter services.
- The county is sitting on Opioid Settlement funds that have not been used.
- No real plan has been put forward by the court.
What Janie Will Do:
- Take back the animal shelter!
- Restart low-cost spay/neuter for all
- Hire a full-time director
- Utilize vet tech program for an emergency vet clinic
- Increase shelter hours open to the public
- Open conversations on issues like for rehab and group housing, animal welfare and opioid settlement funds.
- Balance compassion with neighborhood priorities and affordability, as over-concentrating group housing can drive up rents and change community character.
- Support strong, targeted ordinances that protect neighborhoods and families.
- Solar – respect private property rights but oppose plans that diminish neighbor's rights to enjoy their property.
- Make reasonable setbacks permanent
- Create a solid plan for decommissioning solar farms that protect our rural environment
- Protect long-term health and wealth of the community.
- Take action and utilize the opioid settlement funds to help those in need who have been harmed by the opioid epidemic.
Janie has fought hard to protect the character of Daviess County. She has been outspoken on many issues and has brought many things to light that have been long ignored:
Janie's Proven Commitment
- She has pursued a solid, effective solar ordinance that protects land owners, by putting reasonable setbacks in place, and tightening up ordinance language to protect our community.
- Voted against outsourcing the animal shelter.
- Stopped the unpopular merger proposed between the Y and the Senior Center.
