Govern With Action-Oriented Common Sense

Common Sense Leadership for Daviess County

What's Gone Wrong:

  • Too much talk – not enough action.
  • Financial decisions that are putting our county in deep debt:
    • Jail renovation: $40 Million
    • Public Safety Building: $18 Million
    • Remodeling top floor of courthouse: $4 Million
  • Taking another county's trash at our landfill.
  • Large amounts spent on consultants and studies.
  • Chaos on the fiscal court staff – too many demotions, reclassifications and firings, with no reasons given.
  • Lots of talk about improving planning and zoning, no action.
  • No money set aside for drainage and flooding.
  • Views of other commissioners and the public not considered or valued.
  • No real plan considered for the animal shelter, county simply washed hands of responsibility.
  • Solar moratorium is coming up for expiration – no action has been taken.

What Janie Will Do:

  • Use the talents, knowledge and expertise of the other commissioners to shape decisions.
  • Use her decades of business experience as an entrepreneur and govern with common sense.
    • Janie grew up on a farm from humble beginnings and knows the value of hard work and what is important to citizens.
  • Put controls on spending and debt – taxes are going up and people are struggling.
  • Cut red tape and costs for entrepreneurs so they can create more jobs.
  • Utilize the brightest and best for board appointments, base appointments on skills and experience.
  • Stop the staff chaos in the Fiscal Court office – provide strong, predictable leadership for employees.

Janie will take action and lead – and take responsibility. She has already shown that she has the leadership qualities the county needs:

Janie's Proven Commitment

  • Janie blocked raising the tangible tax – resulting in the Fiscal Court being able to say no taxes were raised.
  • Janie regularly advocates for funding for drainage and flooding issues.
  • Janie was the commissioner that initially suggested the repeal and replace tax to fund the volunteer fire departments.
  • She was critical of staff firings and treatment of staff – some of the worst came around the Christmas season.
  • No one has been stronger on Fiscal Court in the area of animal welfare; Janie has advocated for many improvements at the animal shelter.
