About Janie Marksberry

Janie Marksberry - A Life of Service

I was born and raised in East Daviess County on a crop and dairy farm, where I learned the value of hard work and commitment. My dad farmed, and later became a real estate broker and appraiser. From him I learned the value of hard work, commitment and doing what is right for everyone, not just the powerful.

As a real estate agent, broker and appraiser — I have spent decades helping business owners find their perfect locations, including involvement in the early stages of the Highway 54 development and the site that eventually became the Palomar Shopping Center in Lexington. I understand how to achieve smart growth while preserving property rights. I am pro-development, when it benefits the entire community.

Janie's riding stable

I have also run a riding stable operation since 2000, teaching hundreds of kids how to ride, and introduced them to the joys and responsibilities of rural life. I understand the farming life and the unique challenges that come with it.

My path into public service began when the Outer Loop proposal threatened local families, farms, and neighborhoods. I had never been involved in politics before, but after seeing how that project was handled, I helped rally citizens to defeat one of the most unpopular road plans in our county's history. That fight showed me both how powerful organized citizens can be—and how disconnected local government had become.

Janie's election night

In 2022, I ran for East County Commissioner on a promise not to be a career politician or a rubber stamp for the status quo, and I was blessed to win a hard‑fought four‑way race. Since then, I have been a consistent, outspoken voice for infrastructure, drainage and flood relief, a more business‑friendly climate, stronger animal welfare, and real transparency in county government.

Janie at Fiscal Court

Serving on Fiscal Court has also shown me how much needs to change. Too many decisions are driven by unelected staff behind closed doors, commissioners are often left out of major choices, and tax dollars are being steered toward big capital projects while flooding, roads, and basic services are neglected. At the same time, Planning and Zoning remains notoriously strict for small businesses, opioid settlement funds sit unused, outside groups are buying up housing and driving up rents, and what was once a model animal shelter has been dismantled.

I believe Daviess County deserves better: open meetings, honest priorities, and common‑sense decision‑making that focuses on needs before wants. I am running for Judge Executive to restore transparency, fix drainage and infrastructure problems, make the county truly business‑friendly, protect our neighborhoods and rural character, and bring action‑oriented common sense back to Fiscal Court.

I am tested, tough, and ready—and I am asking for your support to serve as your next Judge Executive, because I truly believe I'm the right choice for Daviess County.
